Viking River Cruise Opportunity Board—2025 Scandinavian Festival
Purpose
The Scandinavian American Cultural and Historical Foundation (SACHF) produces the Scandinavian Festival every year with support from California Lutheran University. The purpose of the Viking River Cruise Opportunity Board is to support next year’s Scandinavian Festival.
California Nonprofit Raffle Program
The Opportunity Board is conducted in accordance with the California Nonprofit Raffle Program. The Department of Justice website provides information on registrants, registration rules and relevant laws. https://oag.ca.gov/charities/raffles
Raffle Tickets:
Only 100 Opportunity Squares (raffle tickets) on the Board will be sold. You may purchase one Square for $100 or two Squares for $150. Each Square must be made out to a single person. (No group or corporate purchases.)
When you purchase a Square, you may select a favorite number (1-100) among numbers that are still available. Each Square represents a 1/100th chance of winning a Viking River Cruise.
Payments by check must be postmarked no later than March 28, 2025. Cash or credit card payments (not checks) may be accepted after March 28, 2025. SACHF reserves the right to sell all 100 Squares before the 2025 Scandinavian Festival begins. If any Squares remain unsold at the time of the drawing, the odds of winning will be better than 1/100.
California’s Nonprofit Raffle Program does not permit raffles to be conducted “in any manner over the Internet.” (Penal Code § 320.5) Therefore, all sales must be done by mail, in person, or over the phone via credit card.
You may print the Order Form and provide credit card information (or check made payable to SACHF) and send by mail to C/O Janice Walsh, 2775 Shields Ct. Thousand Oaks CA 91360. Alternatively, you may send an email request to cruise@scandinavianfest.org and we will process your credit card payment over the phone at a time that is convenient to you.
Each raffle ticket is sold with a detachable stub. Both the ticket and its associated stub are marked with the same unique number (1-100). Once payment is received, the purchaser’s initials will be written on the stub that goes into the large rotating drum used for the Drawing. The matching ticket will be mailed or personally delivered to the purchaser.
The Drawing:
The Opportunity Board Drawing will be held on April 6, 2025. The winner does not need to be present to win. The winning number will be announced on the Main Stage over the loudspeaker at approximately 3:50 PM. If the winner is not present to claim the prize, the winning-purchaser will be contacted via phone or email.
The winner agrees to allow SACHF to publish their name and photographs.
Prize:
A Cruise Certificate from the Viking Cruise Company will be presented to the winner. The Certificate is valid for one Standard Stateroom up to Category E, double occupancy, cruise only. Voyage includes an 8-day European river cruise, included meals, shore excursions and tours. Airfare, transfers, land extensions, cruisetours and Christmas Market holiday itineraries are not included. Not transferable; no credit will be issued for cruise fares of lesser value; value may not be exchanged for cash. Valued up to $7,398. Valid on available 2025 or 2026 embarkations only. Blackout dates may apply. Not combinable with any other offer or Future Cruise Voucher. Subject to stateroom availability. Must make reservations within 120 days prior to departure. Additional add-ons, such as air, transfers, hotels, etc. are only payable by credit card. Airfare available for purchase at full brochure rates. Restrictions may apply.
The Cruise Certificate is not redeemable for cash and is not transferable.
Dispute resolution:
Only one method of payment and one mailing address is permitted per Square (or package of two Squares). If more than one name appears on the Order Form and the corresponding raffle ticket stub is drawn, only the purchaser will be declared the winner. If the winner-purchaser does not claim the prize within 30 days of the drawing, by responding to electronic, telephonic or written notice from SACHF, the prize will be forfeited, and a new stub will be drawn at the Scandinavian Center, at noon, May 6, 2025.
SACHF will make reasonable efforts to quickly resolve any declined payments (rejected credit cards, dishonored checks) by using information provided on the Order Form.
Disputes arising out of the Viking Cruise Opportunity Board shall be resolved by arbitration. Such arbitration shall take place in Ventura County, California and shall be administered by a single arbitrator from Ventura Conflict Resolution Institute (CRI). In order to keep costs down, hearings may be conducted telephonically or entirely upon submissions.
Income Tax:
The $100 ticket price (“wager”) is not deductible as a charitable contribution. However, the fair market is valued up to ($7,398) of the cruise (“certain gambling winnings”) is taxable. SACHF will not withhold any money for taxes, nor will SACHF file a Form W-2G, because the value of the cruise is less than 300 times the amount of the ticket price.
